0/0 and 0^0 are undefined, simple as that.
What is defined:
Code:
lim (0/x) = 0
x?0

lim (x/x) = 1
x?0

lim (0^x) = 0
x?0

lim (x^0) = 1
x?0
?0 is 0, simple as that

? being square root. 0 is the only number that when multiplied by any other number equals itself. Therefore defaulting it to be it's on square root.

@0^0, fuller explanation

Code:
X^2/X^2=X^0
--->XX/XX=X^0
1=X^0

0^0 is still undefined, though, as x²/x² implies that x ? 0.

so 0^0=0/0

I'm pretty sure that 0/0 and 0^0 both equal negative infinity through positive infinity because 0/0=x and when u multiply each side by 0 you get 0=0x x can equal anything now...

yeah, owned,
To clarify:
Code:
X^0=X/X

I don't agree with the negative infinity part, however.

Just so you know, wrtlprnft, if you on a mac, Shift-Period and Shift-Comma can be less than and greater than signs, and option-comma and option-period are less/greater-than or equal to. <?>?

I'm using linux, but I've mapped my right alt key to do all sorts of useful stuff (besides the stuff in the German keyboard layout).
That's how I get things like ?, µ, ?, ?, ?, ð, ¹, ², ³, ¼, ½, ?, ?, ?, ?, ¬, ?, ?, ?, ·, ÷, ×, ?, ±, ?. And that's just the math related stuff Smile

Øwned: multiplying/dividing by 0 is not an equivalent transformation, thus your reasoning can't work Razz

0/0 is only symbol to note some functions limeses like wrtl wrote (it's unofficial)
Code:
lim (x+1)/(x-1) = ¦ 2/0(±) ¦ = ±?
x?1(±)

lim 1/x = ?
x?0

lim 0/x = 0, k ? 0
x?k

0:0 is unallowed - it's one of the main laws of math, take a look at this:
Code:
a  +  b + c  = 0     ¦ + a
2a +  b + c  = a     ¦ + b
2a + 2b + c  = a+b   ¦ + c
2a + 2b + 2c = a+b+c
2(a+b+c) = a+b+c     ¦ : (a+b+c)
2 = 1
Wink

wrong Razz

The first one is undefined, you need to specify the direction (+0 or -0). The seconf one is simply 1/k for k ? 0.

Code:

lim 1/x = ? exist if and only if lim 1/x = lim 1/x and is equal to that
x?0                              x?0-      x?0+
lim 0/x = ¦ 0 goes to 0, k goes to k so 0/k goes to 0 ¦ = lim 0/k = 0
x?k

am i wrong?

For the first one:
Code:
lim 1/x = -?
x?0-0
For the second one: You're right, I read 1/x Smile
