Hi, don't know whether you guys have any policies on accepting maps by ex-members, but I had an idea, and just spent a bit of my free time making it (good practice if/when I want my own server).

Anyway, here is the code. There is one important thing: I have no clue (yet) as to how to code for moving zones. I see I could have used a settings to spawn them instead of putting it in the map file, but what I intend is for the zones to move from side to side (ontop of each other) and bounce off the opposite walls of the map (if looking down on the map, they bounce on the walls to the left and right of the zones). The map might be a bit small, and the name irrelivant, but you probably get the gist of it. Hope you like it Smile

Oh and I left out a bunch of settings, because I know you guys like to play with them. Have fun, when you get the chance Smile

Code:

<Settings>
<Setting name="TEAMS_MIN" value="2" />
<Setting name="TEAMS_MAX" value="2" />
<Setting name="SIZE_FACTOR" value="1.5" />
<Setting name="CYCLE_RUBBER" value="5" />
<Setting name="WALLS_LENGTH" value="300" />
</Settings>
<World>
<Field>
<Spawn   x="300"   y="490"   xdir="0"   ydir="-1"   />
<Spawn   x="300"   y="1010"   xdir="0"   ydir="1"   />
<Wall>
<Point   x="0"   y="0"   />
<Point   x="0"   y="1600"   />
<Point   x="600"   y="1600"   />
<Point   x="600"   y="0"   />
<Point   x="0"   y="0"   />
</Wall>
<Wall height="2">
<Point   x="50"   y="60"   />
<Point   x="50"   y="700"   />
<Point   x="550"   y="700"   />
<Point   x="550"   y="60"   />
</Wall>
<Wall height="2">
<Point   x="300"   y="700"   />
<Point   x="300"   y="500"   />
</Wall>
<Wall height="2">
<Point   x="50"   y="1540"   />
<Point   x="50"   y="800"   />
<Point   x="550"   y="800"   />
<Point   x="550"   y="1540"   />
</Wall>
<Wall height="2">
<Point   x="300"   y="800"   />
<Point   x="300"   y="1000"   />
</Wall>
<Zone effect="fortress">
<ShapeCircle radius="150">
<Point x="300" y="750.01" />
</ShapeCircle>
</Zone>
<Zone effect="fortress">
<ShapeCircle radius="150">
<Point x="300" y="749.99" />
</ShapeCircle>
</Zone>
</Field>
</World>
</Map>
</Resource>

Aren't the map files public? Just thought so because I heard kyle talking of it ... so you could find how to do the moving zones. about the rest: I can not handle with it Razz

It actually looks pretty interesting. My suggestion would be to make the side walls a bit shorter and make it easier to get from one side to the other.

Thats up to you guys (if you choose to accept it), since I am rubbish at names...

Thanks Smile! I was looking into it yesterday but couldn't be sure 100%, so I would rather just leave it until I learned how to do it

How so? Header? No name means I thought I might as well just leave it blank, and you guys will probably change it anyway Smile

Yeah I know about those Razz

Owned, hmm but my original idea would be the defender(s) are trying to defend like crazy while their team races to the middle to set up a proper attack/defence of the moving zones. And since they move from side to side, choosing which way to go is a vital tactical decision.

I also have a question, and suggestion:

Q: If I made a nano-penta map, and you liked it, which round would you put it in? Nano does seem to be lacking, while the chico/penta level is very full. Perhaps if you made several penta maps they could take a whole level, but this would probably take a restructure of some other levels.

Suggestion: There are certain levels on CTWF that I feel are slightly less 'crazy' than others, and since there are quite a few less nano levels, perhaps chaing some to nano would solve both problems in one go? For example German Sausage...

No offence to their makers, but I just don't feel the crazyness

There are moving zones? Shocked
Anyways, I didn't realize the center part where you can go and fight their team. I thought that was closed off.

hey just a quick question, much appreciated if someone could help me out here.

If I wanted to host a map, I would need to have a website, however the website I used before (geocities) now charges so I can't have one of them. Do you guys know any other that does work, or anywhere else I could do this, thanks Smile

additional. I tried a website called freehostia.com and I had what I thought was an interesting lead.

I made http://fortress-elite.freehostia.com/ and then a resource file (http://fortress-elite.freehostia.com/resource/)

I set this as my RESOURCE_REPOSITORY_SERVER and then tried to load the MAP_FILE regedit/regular/square-1.0.1.aamap.xml

and it didn't work... all that happened was arma tried to find the file in my local resource file (which I deleted, so it couldn't find it)

and comparing my new site with http://resource.armagetronad.net/resource/ I cannot see any differences.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

if you did it on client side you need to modify RESOURCE_REPOSITORY_CLIENT instead

Edit: with thanks to everyone who gave it a little bit of thought, and thanks to the armagetron resource, both kyle's and ed's maps helped me (since kyle stored an old version of mine and i simply used one of ed's normal maps).

Basically what was wrong was the header of my maps were always wrong:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE Resource SYSTEM "AATeam/map-0.2.8.0_rc4.dtd">

is the right heading. Mine was always taken from the standard map headings, which are apparently out of date and specify the wrong SYSTEM (taking an example from http://beta.armagetronad.net/resource-browser/resource/kyle/nano/fortress/dia_nano_chico-0.0.1.aamap.xml):

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE Resource SYSTEM "AATeam/map-0.2.8.0.dtd">

so basically I just need to chagne the Resource SYSTEM for all my maps that I want to host on my freehostia Wink

And I will now start free hosting for others who don't have their own place to put their maps Smile

Hey just something interesting I found, wonder if you guys knew about it/anything more:

Adventures of tron (run by sine.wav) has a rotation system of 10 maps in a row, and quoting his website, http://adventuresoftron.com/maps.htm apparently in his settings.cfg he has a rotation command:

ROTATION_TYPE 1
MAP_ROTATION [map1];[map2];[map3] etc.

I tried using these commands in an armagetron game and it didn't recognise them, does this actually work or is he using an external script as well?
