I have been unable to find enough information on both zombies and scripting to solve my problem, which is, I want to add zombies to a map I'm making and have it work in a way similar to the CT Map "Zombie Attack - Loopy Passages." Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

first of all Ct's server use the ct+sty version of the game.
some limited documentation of the source code is here
you may checkout our source code from bazzar found here

now spawning those zones are a bit tricky
we run a script that looks at ladderlog.txt
you should have LADDERLOG_WRITE_ALL set to 1 so the you can read messages

we set a zombie to each player, at the start of a round we get a list of all the players
Code:
if (preg_match("/^ONLINE_PLAYER/", $line)){
        $keywords = preg_split("/ /", $line);
            //make sure the player is playing
       if(sizeof($keywords)==7){
          //SPAWN_ZONE zombie <player> <x> <y> <size> <growth> <xdir> <ydir> <interactive> <r> <g> <b> <target_size>
        $zombie_spawn.="SPAWN_ZONE zombie ".$keywords[1]." 120 376 1 .001 .5 .5 1 15 00 00 1.5\n";
      }
    }

this is we use to print the zombies at the start and then it clears the string

Code:
if (preg_match("/^GAME_TIME/", $line)){
      $keywords = preg_split("/ /", $line);
      $game_time=floor($keywords[1]);
      if ( $game_time == -1 ) {
          if ($current_map=="loopy_passages") {
      print($zombie_spawn);
      }
      $zombie_spawn="";
      }
   }

if you want to have different maps that have zones at the start you may want to put in a common value to replace for the x and y positions in your $zombie_spawn string I'll add this to our wiki later

Excellent! That's not too hard to understand even for a noob like me. I came up with an alternative to the zombies. Since the goal of my map is to reach the opposite side (this is the race server you saw), simply placing an expanding DZ at the start will keep the game moving forward. Thanks a lot for your help.

And, I'm going to file a bug report about the internal cam freeze. I run alpha0306 and it crashes the application instead of freezing. I don't remember this happening in the stable version (0.2.8.1?) and I use the incam a lot. I think I'm the only one who likes the incam.

Here are all the settings for the race server that aren't cosmetic:

CAMERA_FORBID_SMART 1
CAMERA_FORBID_IN 0
CAMERA_FORBID_FREE 1
CAMERA_FORBID_FOLLOW 1
CAMERA_FORBID_CUSTOM 1
CAMERA_FORBID_SERVER_CUSTOM 1

SIZE_FACTOR 1
WALLS_LENGTH .1
WALLS_STAY_UP_DELAY .1

CYCLE_SPEED 5
CYCLE_SPEED_DECAY_ABOVE .75
CYCLE_START_SPEED 5
CYCLE_WALL_NEAR 0
CYCLE_SOUND_SPEED 40
CYCLE_BRAKE -65
CYCLE_TURN_SPEED_FACTOR 1
CYCLE_RUBBER 5
CYCLE_BRAKE_DEPLETE 0

Everything else is just team, score, and whatnot. But I think the camera freeze bug isn't isolated in the server, because it happens in the client. Try the incam locally.

And, this is the texture I made to go with that server. I think it's quite nice.

Kyle, I've got a question about map rotation. I am preparing to relaunch my race server with many more maps. However, I can't seem to get them to rotate. I was under the impression that adding..
Code:
ROTATION_TYPE 1
MAP_ROTATION turtle/adventure/river_f-0.0.1.aamap.xml;turtle/adventure/island_f-0.0.1.aamap.xml;etc...

..would do the trick. All the maps are in the repository. But, no rotation. Is there an obvious noob mistake here?

Oh, and I redid the above texture once again because you're right, it really was impractical.

MAP_ROTATION only works in 0.3.* servers

Ah, that's the bit of information I suspected but couldn't confirm. Thanks a lot man. I'll look into getting the 0.3 dedicated up and running. I saw your post about how MAP_ROTATION works here: http://forums.armagetronad.net/viewtopic.php?t=10021, and that's good to know. I hope this all works the way I envision it. Smile

Update: Luke Jr. and I are discussing whether or not to upgrade my rental to 0.3, write rotation script, or may work on back porting MAP_ROTATE to 0.2.8. I imagine we'll have a solution in a few days. I'll let you know when it's done. I'm pretty excited to try out my new tracks with people!

And now you can. We wound up just writing a little rotator in PHP.

Thanks for changing the topic to "sinewav's racing server quesions." It was getting a little out of hand. Oh, and it's buggy as all hell. The maps are cool, but damn hard to play with the bugs. Overall it's an interesting server, but I don't think it will be a "successful" server; meaning I don't think it'll capture an audience (or any of the Delicious Desserts crowd).

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks! Oh, and I have a question maybe you can answer...

You know that wall bug thing? Where you get too close to the wall and speed drops to 0? I set CYCLE_ACCEL_RIM 1 and that seemed to stop it. But, it would still drag when you turned away from the wall. So, I set CYCLE_BOOST_RIM 1 and it kicked my client (0.2.8 stable).

Maybe you know a little about:

CYCLE_ACCEL_RIM_OVERRIDE
CYCLE_BOOSTFACTOR_RIM
CYCLE_BOOSTFACTOR_RIM_OVERRIDE
CYCLE_BOOST_RIM_OVERRIDE

Because I don't understand if I should mess with these settings. Maybe I should post on the Arma forum?

official help:

CYCLE_BOOSTFACTOR_RIM: Factor your speed is multiplied with when breaking from the rim wall

CYCLE_ACCEL_RIM_OVERRIDE: Block out older clients when CYCLE_ACCEL_RIM differs from its default?

the rest is undocumented
