How to do sumo zones?

I've just been fiddling about attempting another map, and I want to put a sumo zone on the centre but I cant figure out how to do it.

Any advice?

Thanks

actually ignore that, it appears to just be some random event that occurs while testing 1v1 against an AI player.

Here we go then, my 2nd attempt at a map. Could probably be tweaked to add a few sneaky side passages and the likes.

Looks nice Smile If noone objects I'll put it online, maybe round 12 or 4.

Btw, the zones problem can be resolved if you set FORTRESS_MAX_PER_TEAM to 2 or whatever number of zones you want each team to have. In theory this will assign each team the two closest zones to its spawn point. It's not that easy, though, as the closeness of a zone and a team is determined by the player whose effective spawn point is closest to the zone, and it's only at the Go! when the zones are assigned to teams (not the teams to zones, which complicates the process as well).

Sure go ahead. Feel free to tweak it if you like Wink

Theres the code to my other map in the "Inkscape" thread, if you want to test that one out as well. I think I may have made it a bit too big, though...

Looks good. I forsee interesting battles there.
Although, by tradition, all 8 axes maps are on round 3.
Start putting octa maps on 4 or 12 and you'll find chico on 9. Then the sky's would begin to fall.
So might not be the best place to put it.

Oh, duh, I didn't read the map in that detail. I thought it was 4 axes and it would probably work that way. I'd have stripped off the axes tag command anyways so I could set it via the admin interface without changing the map.

So, 8 axes and round 3 or 4 axes and round 4 or 12?

I'd go with 8. The paths to the sumo zones would become mighty frustrating if you had to double back on yourself with 4 axes.
I'm not sure the center sumo would work that well with it's current size and state. If a member of each team was able to protect one "sector" battles could go on for a long time and become tedious, until the dz appears, then run away. I'd probably give the sumo zones a similar size and layout to the end zones, and make sure I started the dz small, and expand quickly.
I'd probably shorten the height all walls to about 3. I prefer to see what's going on around the arena, unless there's a reason not to. 0.3 players would have a huge disadvantage if this was not done. A lot could be said about many other maps, but they were made before we had the map hud option.
Just my 2 pence. Other than that, I like it a lot. Ask Kyle, I butcher all his maps too.

lol its no problem, I was bored so just decided to make one, heh. Feel free to edit as much as you like.

I'll have another look at a 4-axes one, theres currently my other map in the Inkscape thread, but I'll look into making something a bit more "mental".

Cheers

How would 0.3.0 players get a disadvantage? I could rather imagine them having an easier game because they have the HUD map

About the sumo zone, what about putting a deathzone in the centre that slowly expands, much the way it works on styball? The problem there would be that the zones could get unreachable, so they'd need to conquer themselves slowly, which would be bad for the real fortress zones. I guess it's time to hack arma once again to allow the conquest/defense/attack rates to be specified in the map.

2 things.

First, that octa map could probably use 8 rubber instead of 5, as an extra tweak

Secondly, Yes I have been really bored today... so here comes the third map Smile. (I purposely made a 4-axes one for rounds 1, 3, 12, or whatever else "needs" another extra map). I'm not sure how laggy it will be with all the lines and zones yet, see what you think. Have tested it, seems ok to me so far.

Name: Thinking Outside The Box

Settings: 5 rubber, accel rim 1, walls length 300.

One problem i see with that map, unless i hack arma to allow different settings for different zones is that the sumo zone in the middle and the speed dome style zones around the map need different behaviors to be really playable: you want a slow-acting, probably normal fortress style zone model for the sumo zone, but quickly conquerable zones everywhere else

How would 0.3.0 players get a disadvantage? I could rather imagine them having an easier game because they have the HUD map

Yeah, that's what I meant. I really should read what I write.

About the sumo zone, what about putting a deathzone in the centre that slowly expands, much the way it works on styball?

I don't think that would solve the problem on this particular map.

I guess it's time to hack arma once again to allow the conquest/defense/attack rates to be specified in the map.

Now that would open up many new possibilities.
