what about if we let people have a free trial month? all they do is sign up like on this website for example then we un-ban their ip for a month (and give them a pass if we add one)

if cters dont want to pay we could let all of us play there for free, since most of us pay if we can (noted ed, xevic, pta etc, i would pay if i could but i asked and parents said no ) or make maps for the server.. we could have like some new maps every month, mabye not 10. and then we still could add to wild

and would there be matches to decide the ranks? or mabye a challenge round every month or something. if u are a certain rank then u enter the challenge (free for all) at a specific time (example 2000gmt) and at that time we switch the map rotation to a certain level like a sumo or a maze, and the people who win the round win, and get to advance to the next highest rank. (teams is unfair cos noobs can get through on a good team). if u miss the challenge haha

Also we could have a second ranking challenge say for example at a hongkong america time so everyone could be ranked, or for those who miss the ranking match

I will always keep the server free. That's part of the reason I play this great game.
I someone wants to set up a pay for server on their own, that's up to them.
Besides, I really don't think people will pay.
And google ads will never happen while I'm around. Did I mention I hate adverts?

Generally I think it won't work. Many people (especially newbies) won't pay because of no job (like students/school guys). It's good idea, I agree money is needed to host most popular servers at the grid but I also think people should have a choice.
I can help with about 1€. I have some money on my gsm prepaid system only so maybe i can help with sms sending? (Poland). Just let play people who dont pay on most servers

Did you think about public testing servers and prviate best-mapped servers What about authorization in client (0.2.8.2 doesn't have any)?

It would have to be individual, not team, for proper ranking. Which means speed & rubber maps, not fortress maps. It could be done with fortress, based on individual scores only, but would be skewed based on whether you decided to attack or defend.

I think the first step is just for me to make the free ranking server and see how it works before going on with the possibility of a pay-to-compete server.

I like the ranking idea.
Anything has got to be better than the current ladder.

well, our current stats, sounds good, maybe writted into a .txt 2 and then we can add a new columns with this info in the stats code.
