ELO rankings are a very popular method of rating players in 1v1 competitions. Perhaps the most well known example is Chess ratings. ELO has now come to 1v1 Sumo. If you want to understand the math, google it. If you want to get in and play, it’s very simple.
- Register
- Find another registered opponent and play them in a match on an ISL 1v1 Sumo server. Make sure they are registered and know it is a ELO match. At the beginning of the match, both players should say in the server chat that it is an ELO match (“gl hf elo”), to ensure any potential disputes can be resolved.
- As soon as the match ends, one of you, and only one of you, reports the result.
- Challenge the best until you are the best.
Good Luck.
Additional rules:
If a player disconnects from or leaves a match, that match can be reported by his opponent for a win. The courteous thing to do is to not report it and ask for a rematch, but if you think your opponent quit to avoid defeat, you should report the result.
If you believe a match has been inaccurately or falsely reported, you can dispute the result. Please only dispute results you are sure are incorrect. Screenshots may settle disputes when appropriate. The server log will also be consulted if necessary. If for some reason the dispute cannot be resolved, a draw will replace the recorded result. |

A piece of advice: to prevent an opponent from disputing the result, both players should say "gl hf elo" at the beginning of the match. To be sure, get a screenshot of this and the final score. This will easily settle any potential disputes about the results. |

Basically, more matches were played than the system, which was nothing more than a spreadsheet on google docs, could handle. So it’s gone into some extreme equivalent of turtle mode and won’t let you or me in. A second version is being worked on, and all matches played will taken from the server logs and put into the new system when it is up and running. You can keep playing your matches, just make sure say “elo” in the server. |
