Hey kyle and all
I've been noticing recently a lot of problems with packet loss, as well as issues with timeouts and (possibly) port changes?
First off, I have recently played on four different connections. Two were normal cable broadband, one was fiber and one over mobile web. One of the cable connections was dodgy anyway, I'll ignore that, but when I'm playing over the other cable and the fiber connections, I seem to suffer inane amounts of packet loss. Just to be sure, I pinged pta.crazy-tronners.com twice, each time with 75% loss. ironically, the connection over my dongle is more stable, but with all three connections I'm suffering connection loss on quite frequent occasions, resulting in my cycle being uncontrollable - i.e. I appear still to be in the game to everyone else, but I am at the start menu of arma at my client. Not only am I affected by this, but I've seen it happen twice today alone, to different players. Over the past few days, I've seen numerous counts of timeout issues, otherwise people complain about invisible walls, sliding and serious amounts of lag.

If you (or someone else) could, would you be a dear and reboot the server? I have a funny feeling (I know relatively nothing, however, about servers) that there is an accumulation of temporary data that isn't being wiped - I noticed that while running my own dedicated server... that is now defunct.

Here my results from peru in the morning:
--- pta.crazy-tronners.com ping statistics ---
49 packets transmitted, 49 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 214.855/273.823/341.838/37.475 ms

I suffer problems too in the afternoon (ie europe evening/night). I'll retry to ping later.

But if server is fine on the morning, we can't only assume that:
- 1. some routers between you and the server might be overloaded at specific hours of the day leading them to drop packets -> some player are suffering slides/lag, not all of them...
- 2. the server (machine) itself might be overloaded at specific hours of the day leading him to drop packets -> all players are suffering slides/lag
- 3. the armagetron server (software) being always crowded never restarts and lose performance leading to slower reactivity and net buffer being overloaded and you know what next -> all players suffers
(1) can't be fixed.
(2) can't be fixed easily.
(3) is probable but unless we find/fix leaks and/or made server most scalable (both might never happen), you'll suffer unless we force the server to restart (even if it's crowded every) n matchs ... for now, server restart on crashes or each time it becomes empty.

I'll checked ping on different time of the day but from what I experience from here it's most likely a combination of the 3 ...

Edit: this morning was about 10h00 here in Lima. This time it's 16:00... still same shitty result for me, not worst. little packet loss
--- pta.crazy-tronners.com ping statistics ---
102 packets transmitted, 101 packets received, 1.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 214.139/277.585/432.387/37.312 ms

As for rebooting the machine, this is for kyle Smile It can help for (2) ... for (3), if everyone leave the server, it will reboot by itself ...

Edit2: at 20:00
--- pta.crazy-tronners.com ping statistics ---
121 packets transmitted, 120 packets received, 0.8% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 215.469/280.332/436.885/43.251 ms

As I said before, things are worst at night. Not so the packet loss but the mean ping and look at max and variance: 43 ! that's almost my european ping on some server. Of course, on a long run max will be worst and it basically represent the case of slides/lag...
Well, on the other hand, even half a sec for 11000 km, that's not so much Smile

OK, thankyou, I'll see if I can find any correlation between my internet route and the packet loss, where I am now I'm accessing the net through a shared exchange (quite common in this area), so I can't do it now, but I'll check when I get back home.
