I would just like to post a special thank you to K-yo, Kyle, P4, and Sol for much advice about hosting, servers, etc. I am currently learning to use OpenVZ to set up virtual servers for the new dedicated server that I am getting, and for my OVH RPSIII. Also, Pathetique and I are working on a server parser that is kind of standardized for TR2NOrigins servers. Once we can release it, we will be putting it up on the forthcoming TheServerPharm wiki, along with other things. I am beginning to do some programming again after not having done much in over 20 years, and having the most fun I have ever had in my life with computers. However, I owe a heavy debt to the work you Crazy Tronners have put into not only the geeky stuff, but the help for me and others! I hope in the near future that my TheServerPharm Forums blogs and upcoming wiki will help to repay the debt to the community. I am also going to be setting up the download section of my forums to have many useful downloads for server admins of TR2NOrigins and Armagetron. More on that later when it is all setup. |

Honestly, the business will probably never turn a profit, it just helps fund things. This is totally my hobby. I don't drink, smoke, or do other money intensive stuff, expect play with servers. |

Good Luck Compguy!
You must be a busy guy, you always seem to be working on some project. |

Well, I prefer to be so busy with something that is for love, aka my hobby, than with things that I am forced to do, that I don't want to do. And yes, I am totally behind where I want to be! My new Dedicated server just became available to me. So, I am having a lot of fun getting the VPS configuration just right. The beauty of it for me, is that I have been itching to have a toy like this!
Edit: Oops, I tried to edit the prior post, but obviously I failed! |

I have found that the RPS II has worked very well for me, hence the reason that I upgraded to 2gb memory. The only limitation that I envision is rather simple. A non-scripted Armagetron server does not do a lot of reads and writes to the hard disk. This is why I chose the RPS with the least expensive storage. If you plan to run servers that use a parser, and that parser does much in real-time with say a MySQL database, as some of the Crazy Tronner GameServers do, you will at a minimum want to get a more expensive plan for the speed of your storage. I am old enough to remember when Storage Area Networks were new. Whenever a very disk intensive application was used, you needed to have that use a Hard Disk attached to a server directly, or at a bare minimum, use the fastest connection possible to not have the given application become lagged by Disk I/O. However, Pathetique has tested a few of his servers that use a parser script on the RPS and encountered no added lag or other problems. |
