I only get "timed out" when using /cmd ls <name> even if the player I'm looking for is actually playing. |

yeah, there are some bugs in it ( for example: using /cmd dsers and seeing nobody except DS Gluggsel 17500 minutes ago ) but all in all I will wave well done to P4! |

I have heard a lot of European Tronners complain about being lagged in Wild West Servers. I would like to give you a layman's explanation about why this happens.
First, let me tell you a little more about my background.
Back in the days of the dinosaurs of networking, when Novell Netware was the king of the Lan Market, and neither Micro$oft nor IBM made a decent quality Network Operating System, I used to sell and install Novell Netware. The first network that I sold connected 2 CPM machines with 3 IBM XT's and 1 IBM AT, for the purpose of file and print sharing. That was in 1985. My last job in the field was as the sole Network Administrator at a company with about 45 PC's in 1994. I hold a CNE and CNA in Netware 3 and Netware 4. So I know a few things about how the Internet and Networks work.
Wild West has all there servers connected via a fairly large network pipe to an ISP. This setup by definition is much more affordable than hosting with a provider like Lightfoot Hosting (Luke-Jr). However, it is also by definition, 2 network hops further away from the main ATT hubs that control all internet traffic. Let me explain a little better why Luke-Jr's hosting is both more expensive and superior.
I am going to use the example of my new Fortress Server to illustrate this. My server is hosted by Luke-Jr in Connecticut, Vermont, which is very near the ATT routing center that is the central hub for traffic not only across the United States, but the incoming lines that run under the Atlantic Ocean to connect Europe and the United States.
Last night from 4am-6am EST (11pm-1am GMT) I played in my server with VCL|maze...a fellow American. A number of European players came in and we rotated between 2-4 players through several players. Every European reported acceptable lag and frame rates in the 30+ range. I constantly kept an eye on their pings, and they consistently showed pings in the 140-180 range. It appeared to be the same kind of performance that I experience in CT servers. By the way, Pink Tomatoes servers appear to show the same kind of performance. So you might want to check out his TST server.
I hope this clears up what seems to be an issue that is widely misunderstood by many Tronners. |

Just a quick question, do you think of keeping these admin scripts at the server or is it just experimental? |

Just a clarification: Luke-jr has several locations across the world that his servers are located. The Connecticut Location is the the one for American Servers. I don't know what other locations he has. I recall 1 or 2 in Europe, and there was talk of him checking into the possibility of hosting one in Australia for some aussie players interested in developing a server or 2. |
