Couple of new maps today made using the delights of Inkscape.
I'm beginning to get the hang of it. Armabell may be a program of the past.
We have an 8 axes map on round 3 - Octa Who?
And a tough 4 axes one on Round 2 - Aliens are in my Bed!
Names? It aint easy you know.
Trouble I find with Inkscape is making straight walls. It's more fun to bend them a little. You'll have to steer clear of walls.
If fps are too low on these, let me know. I was getting around 60 compared to my usual 80 so it shouldn't be so bad. |

W00t, nice maps
You know you can make walls at angles in 10 degrees increments if you press CTRL, right? If you do and just think straight lines are boring I'll declare that your problem
And where the heck do you get your ideas from? I'm always lacking them, or they lead to maps that have too much stuff in them and cause a huge drop in framerate ( [1] [2] [3]). Though I might think about the circuit board one, make it smaller and more symmetric. |

That pac-man style map is nice and I think the circuit board one would work if it was smaller.
I wish I had the patience to learn map making. Anyone know any easy programs? (I already tried armabell, but it wouldnt work) |

No, but I do now. And I know.

Start building shapes, think which ones work best, and play around. That's how I made most of my maps, they build themselves really, I just help them.
I like the pacman map too. I think it would make a great shooting map.

Armabell is the easiest. Read this thread to get it working.
You will need to grasp the basics of maps by reading this and this to make a working map. It might look daunting, but once you get your head around it, it's fairly simple. |

I played it once, and it wasn't that good. All those zones really drag the framerate down, and everyone was just crying lag.
But I followed the circuit board idea, it's on round 1 now:
Also, the FORTRESS_MAX_PER_TEAM thing is fixed, so sumo spiral is back.
Which leaves the following in round 13: - Octagon Fortress!
- Mini
- Chico's Wild Ride
- Pentastyle
- Nano Scaled Up
- Packman

yeah that last map is unplayable for me, a steady 18 fps, and even my crappy pc never goes below 50 on any other map. |

Hmm, I reduced the number of walls quite a bit.
The framerate feels about the same as on the chimneys map now. Tell me if I should simplify it even more. |

I've had an attempt at a map, not sure what you'll think of it. I've based the idea on some of yor diamond/star maps, but with small zones which are kinda like "Little Circles".
Name: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (Yeah ok, it sucks)
Settings: Works best I find with CYCLE_ACCEL_RIM 2, WALLS_LENGTH 250 (or maybe 200 if you find 250 too long).
Heres an screenshot I took of it, wasn't sure how you got those images like all you have. /me hates being a beginner
Feel free to play around with it, change how big the zones or walls are, or just the overall size of the map. I also wondered what it may be like with shooting?
Thanks

oh yeah, i forgot to edit that bit about testing it.. haha. ignore that bit :p
and i keep trying to insert the code in, but it doesnt let me. when i click submit all you can see in the code thats displayed is the zone type, if theres a wall or not, and theres about it. Theres no points, no coordinates, no nothing. :S |
